Men’s Team takes Second, Women finish Third
November 15, 2008, Folsom, CA – Forest Lake Christian’s Christa Weisman and Austin Violette qualified to the State Championship, while leading their Varsity Men’s and Women’s cross country squads to second and third place finishes at the CIF Section Meet held on the Willow Hills 5k Course at Folsom last Saturday.
In the Women’s Varsity D-5 race, Forest Lake Christian battled the entire 5k race against Big Valley Christian and Jim Elliot Christian. As the dust settled around the finish line, the Falcons landed in third place with 57 points, finishing just behind Big Valley and Jim Elliot, scoring 42 and 44 points respectively. Faith Christian finished a distant 4th with 80 points
But that didn’t slow down Christa Weisman who led the Flacons, sprinting ahead of the pack to take first place among Division V competitors with time of 22 minutes, 20 seconds. Finishing out the Falcons’ team was Elyse Vierra and Lia Hegarty, grabbing 9th and 16th places, as well as Dana Ormiston and Lydia Khyuvenen securing 19th and 22nd.
In the Varsity Men’s 5k Race, Austin Violette took 2nd place, clocking 18 minutes, 15 seconds, to lead Forest Lake Christian to a second place team finish. The Falcons scored 61 points, just behind Sierra Ridge who took today’s victory with 47 points. Victory Christian placed 3rd with 71 points, followed by Jim Elliot Christian in 4th (74 points), Foresthill 5th (102), and Faith Christian 6th (120).
The Falcons also had strong 12th and 13th place performances from Maxx Mamula, and Seth Brainard, clocking 20:43 and 20:51 respectively, as well as from Billy Corbin in 17th (21:06), Ashton Santee 27th (22:33), and Amos McCamey 34th (23:48). Missing from the finishing line-up was DJ Unruh, the Falcons’ consistent number two runner, who incurred a knee injury the day after last week’s Sub-Section meet.
“Our objective today was to win team titles so that we could advance both our entire 7-person squads to the State Championship in Fresno. Despite the dedicated, enthusiastic efforts of every runner, we came up slightly short of that goal; however, I’m proud of this team because each person gave their very best for God’s glory. We also know that both Christa (Wiesman) and Austin (Violette) will represent their teammates well at the State Meet in Fresno on November 29,” said Coach Nick Vogt.
