Weisman sprints to individual title, Violette takes second.
November 8, 2008, Angel’s Camp, CA – The Forest Lake Christian Varsity Men’s and Women’s cross country squads took second place at the CIF Sub-Section Meet Saturday, held on the Frogtown 3.08 mile Course at Angel’s Camp..
Forest Lake Christian and Jim Elliot Christian Schools finished in a tie at 34 points each in the Women’s Varsity D-5 race; however, the Falcons had to settle for 2nd place today because of the tie-breaking rule, based on the finishing position of each school’s fifth runner.
But that didn’t slow down Christa Weisman who led the Flacons, sprinting ahead of the pack to take first place among Division V competitors with a personal-best time of 21 minutes, 26 seconds. Finishing out the Falcons’ team was Elyse Vierra and Lia Hegarty, grabbing 12th and 13th places with personal best times of 24:52 and 24:53, as well as Dana Ormiston and Ashley Blair securing 16thand 26th.
Austin Violette took 2nd in the Varsity Men’s 3.08-mile Race in another best mark of 17 minutes, 26 seconds, leading the Forest Lake Christian team to a second place finish, and helping to secure his team’s advancement to next week’s CIF Section Championship. The Falcons scored 63 points, just behind Sierra Ridge who took today’s victory with 46 points.
The Falcons also had strong 8th and 12th place performances from DJ Unruh, and Seth Brainard, clocking 19:36 and 20:04 respectively, as well as from Billy Corbin in 17th (20:54), Ashton Santee26th (22:34), Amos McCamey 30th (22:59), and David Herron 34th in 23:57,
Jake Henry and Josh Long represented Forest Lake Christian in the Junior Varsity Men’s race; however final results were still pending for that race at press time.
“Our objective today was just to qualify to the CIF Section Championship at Folsom on Saturday, November 15, but our primary goal is to win both the varsity men’s and women’s races at Sections next weekend in order for both squads to advance to the November 29 State Championship in Fresno,” said Coach Nick Vogt.
“We worked really hard on hills and long intervals this week to train through this meet, and now we are all looking forward to next week’s lighter workload as we taper for the Section Finals… We have a solid team that is highly motivated to win Sections and go all the way to the State Meet,” said Austin Violette.
