This year's state meet will once again feature one of the top throwers in US history, Valley Christian SJ senior thrower, Elena Bruckner. She had a spectacular junior season with the #9 shot put mark in US history at 53'5.5" as well as the #10 all-time discus mark at 182'8". She won the shot put at the state meet and finished 2nd behind teammate Ronna Stone in the discus as they led their team to a 2nd place team finish behind Oaks Christian. Bruckner has improved on those marks this season and is US #2 in the shot put with a mark of 54'7" and US #1 in the discus at 186'10".
While Bruckner will be drawing a crowd to her events, another event that is not to be missed is the boys' high jump. Entered in the field are six jumpers who have jumped 7'0" or above in their careers. The state meet record of Lee Balkin Glendale (SS) 1979 at 7'3.25" may be in play once the order of finish has been determined.
