Teams to Watch

Only three D5 schools have 5 returning runners in our database from the 2014 section finals, and those three are not separated by much in their battle to be the lone advancer to the state meet. Hamilton City enters the season with the slimmest of edges over Trinity, with the Braves' superior 5th runner making the difference over Trinity's strong #1 gun. Mt. Shasta starts the season trailing both of those teams, and needs to cultivate more depth to be able to threaten for a state meet berth.

Athletes to Watch (Individual Rankings)

With Belle Moran moving to Foothill in the spring, that takes away the top returner in the division. Ellie Coffee (Durham) and Carly Gutermuth (Trinity) will be left to duke it out for the top spot this fall, and they are pretty evenly-matched, so it should be interesting to see how this works out. Both broke 20 at the section finals last year, with Coffee slightly ahead, but Gutermuth has the better 5K time - and she also had a very good track season, clocking 5:16 and 11:24. Olivia Lindsey (Redding Christian) will pick up the #1 spot for her team that Moran vacated, but she has a lot of ground to make up on the top 2 returners.
