Liam Anderson, a junior at Redwood in the North Coast Section, is the state's top-ranked boy in Division 3 for 5,000 meters, the distance contested at the CIF State Championships. Kevin Ramos is second.
However, when comparing D3 times across the state at three miles, the more common course distance during the regular season, Ramos, a junior at Rubidoux of the Southern Section, jumps to the top with a best of 14:03.50. Anderson slipping to 12th.
Ramos was 10th at the CIF State Championship last November and has a victory at Mt. SAC on his resume so far this season.
The top two returners from last year's State final are the aforementioned Anderson, who was second as a sophomore, and senior Joaquin Martinez De Pinillos of Cathedral Catholic in the San Diego Section, who was third.
FYI, Anderson was second to Ramos in the Division 1-2 Sweepstakes race at Mt. SAC. Martinez De Pinillos won the D3 Sweepstakes race.
