There's no surprise that Claudia Lane, a junior at Malibu High from the Southern Section, is the top-ranked girl in Division 4 at 5,000 meters. Lane's best 5K time of 16:35.00 is nearly a minute faster than that of No. 2 Cassie Land, a senior from Sonora High of the Sac-Joaquin Section.

Lane's personal best time at this distance, posted in winning the Ventura County Championships on Oct. 27, is 10 seconds faster than her time of 16:45.00 in winning State last season.

She is also the defending Foot Locker West and Foot Locker National champion.

Land's top 5K time was posted in winning the Small School Division of the Pacific Tiger Invitational on Sept. 23.

According to her profile (linked above), she ran 21 races at the 5K distance between her freshman and junior seasons, but has run only one so far this year.

Land, ninth at the State final as a freshman and seventh as a sophomore, slumped to 65th last season. But she hit the championship season fast with a recent victory at the Sac-Joaquin Subsection meet.

Kaela Dishion,  a senior from Bret Harte Union and Land's strongest competition in the Sac-Joaquin Section, ranks third in this division.
