North Coast Section MOC Preview

GIRLS SPRINTS
The favorite to win the 100 meters will be Amador Valley senior Chinyere Okoro (Alvin Jornada photo above with Okoro on the right and Santa Rosa senior Kirsten Carter on the left). The favorite to win the 200 and 400 is Bishop O'Dowd senior Tierra Robinson-Jones. You can read all about Robinson-Jones in this terrific profile by Damin Esper at this LINK.

GIRLS MID-DISTANCE/DISTANCE
Alyssa Brewer will win her third section title in the 800m before locking up another state title the following week. Lock it up. Healdsburg junior Gabrielle Peterson will be favored to win the section title in the 1600m but don't forget about past champion Rylee Bowen who may be peaking at the right time.

GIRLS HURDLES
The short hurdles race is not quite as powerful as year's past when sub 14 times were common. Now, dipping under 15 seconds could get you to the state meet. The three contenders for the section title are Habibah Sanusi of Maria Carrillo, Allanah Lee of Castro Valley and Amayia Brandon of Dublin. In the long hurdles, Kali Hatcher of St. Mary's Berkeley will be the one to beat.

GIRLS RELAYS
In the 400m relay, Bishop O'Dowd will be the team to beat. In the 1600m relay, Santa Rosa was the only school to dip under the 4 minute mark but they will have plenty of competition from St. Mary's Berkeley and possibly SF University.

GIRLS JUMPS
In the girls' high jump, Katie Hurst of Fortuna will be favored with a best jump of 5'6". In the long jump and triple jump, Kali Hatcher of St. Mary's Berkeley will be favored to win both but will be challenged mightily in the triple jump from another state-ranked jumper, Allanah Lee of Castro Valley.

Update: Katie Hurst is the winner of the high jump as she ties her season best of 5'6".

GIRLS THROWS
In the throwing events, Hannah-Sophia Hall of James Logan will be favored to sweep both events. She has posted the best marks in each event at 45'5.25" and 158'0" respectively.
