2018 Sacramento Meet of Champions Preview

100/110 Meter Hurdles
Girls Meet Record: Kaylah Robinson 13.32 2017
Boys Meet Record: David Klech California 13.69 2006

I suspected the meet record might be broken in this event last year and occasionally I am correct. El Cerrito senior Kaylah Robinson raced to a 13.32 victory which lowered the previous record by a few tenths. This year, any of the hurdlers in the field would be ecstatic if they dipped under 14 seconds. The hurdler with the best chance is Silver Creek junior Jazlynn Shearer. She has a season best of 14.09 and appears ready to break that barrier soon. Keeping her honest will be Golden Valley's Angelena Williams (14.46) and Bella Vista's Sadye Peschke (14.69).

The boys' 110m hurdle race should come down to the two hurdlers in the middle of the track. St. Mary's Stockton sophomore Jamar Marshall is coming off a victory at the Mt. SAC Relays with a best of 14.10. Merrill West junior Warren Williams recorded his best time of 14.24 as he finished in a virtual tie with Marshall with Marshall getting the nod for the higher finish. Dublin senior Troy Barcenas has improved quite a bit this season and his 14.66 best should make him one of the favorites to qualify to the California state meet from the NCS MOC meet.
