Top 10 performers from 2017 California State Track & Field Meet

#10 Zachary Shinnick Damien (SS)/Jett Charvet Heritage (NCS)

I am already cheating by naming two athletes for #10 but it's my list so onward we go. The Michael Norman Vista Murrieta (SS) era ended last year and the search for a new one lap king ended when Zachary Shinnick Daminen (SS) dipped under the 47 second mark at the Southern Section Division 3 Finals. He won the SS Masters meet with another personal best of 46.38 and continued his roll at the state finals with a victory in a "oh so close to getting in the 45s" 46.12.

Alex Scales Bellarmine (CCS) posted a lot of victories during the 2017 Track & Field season including a California leading 1:50.64 at the Arcadia Invitational. He doubled his victory total at the Central Coast Section meet by winning the 1600 and 800. At the state meet, Scales chose to focus on the 800 and seemed like the overwhelming favorite. In the final, Jett Charvet Heritage (NCS), stayed in the middle of the pack during the first lap and eased toward the front during the first 100 of the 2nd lap. With 300 to go, Charvet shot to the lead and surprised the field to win the state title in a new personal best of 1:51.07.
