CIF State Meet Day 1 Highlights

Athletes that Exceeded Expectations on Day 1

A whole bunch of girls in the 100 Hurdles showed out Friday. I mean, we expected Tara, Jurnee, and Kaylah to be very fast, and they were, but the next four girls all set season bests. Breanna Bernard-Joseph and Jada Hicks both ran 13.72 in separate heats; likewise for Allie Jones and Shante Robinson, who both clocked 13.81. Most of the times were wind-aided, but even the one legal heat was +1.8, so there wasn't much difference between the three races. This should be a great final!

Speaking of the girls 100, Kiera King (Long Beach Wilson) had herself a DAY on Friday. She dropped her PR in the 100 from 11.83 to 11.56 (albeit windy), and then advanced to the final of the 200 as well. You can't exactly say she was "off the radar" this season, not after running 23.69 two weekends ago, but I also wouldn't have projected her to advance in both sprints. Nice work!
