Weekend 5 Highlights: Palos Verdes, Stanford, Central Park, & More!

Palos Verdes Invitational Highlights

The future was on display in Palos Verdes on Friday, as young stars not only won for both boys and girls but actually had dominating performances.  On the girls' side, sophomore Claudia Lane (Malibu) took down the course record on one of the tougher 2 Mile tracks in the state, clocking 11:03.56 to drop an astonishing 41 seconds off the previous record! The next 3 times (and 4 of the next 6) belonged to the host school, as Palos Verdes claimed a 33 - 85 win over Cathedral Catholic.

Speaking of the Dons, it was junior Joaquin Martinez de Pinillos (Cathedral Catholic) who posted the best time of the day for the boys. Right now he is the top returner in the state for the 2017 season, and he continued to state his case for that spot with a 9:57.55, making him the 2nd runner ever to break 10 on the course. Martinez de Pinillos won by 14 seconds over Edwin Pattinelli (Flintridge Prep), but Pattinelli's team came out on top by outscoring Palos Verdes 58 - 65.
