ASICS Mt. Carmel Invitational Recap

Vista Murrieta added a US #6 time in the 4x100 and a US #4 triple-jump mark by C.J. Alumbres to their 2015 resume.


Many of the top athletes in the San Diego Section converged on Mt. Carmel HS Saturday, where they were joined by a big group of teams from the Southern Section and even a handful of competitors from the North Coast. All of those teams and athletes combined to produce over 150 MileSplit Elite performances ranging across all the event groups. Check out the highlights below!

Highlights:

  • Alexandria Florent (Harvard Westlake) edged into the lead in the high jump state rankings by clearing 5' 9", which also puts her into a tie for US #8.
  • Vista Murrieta's boys posted an impressive 41.42 CA #1 US #6 in the 4x100, with Notre Dame just behind at 41.51 CA #2 US #10.
  • Notre Dame responded by taking the 4x400 in 3:17.84 CA #1 US #23, holding off Long Beach Wilson in the process. The Knights also ran a CA #2 US #9 time of 7:57.17 in the 4x800.
  • Greg Vann (Rio Mesa) extended his state lead in the long jump, soaring to a mark of 24' 10.5" to also move up to US #2.
  • In the triple jump, C.J. Alumbres (Vista Murrieta) posted a 48' 7.5" effort, good enough for CA #1 and US #4 this season. Jordon Miller (Oceanside) improved to 47' 2.75" CA #2 US #23.
  • Sean Lee (Trabuco Hills) cleared 6' 9", moving up to CA #4 in the high jump.
  • Tyler Merkley (Los Osos) threw the discus 183' 1" CA #2 US #6.
  • Mar'Yea Harris (Long Beach Wilson) ran 48.24 CA #2 in the 400, holding off Caleb Repp (Los Osos) and his 48.37 CA #3.
  • Antonio Mitchell (Vista Murrieta) had the wind at his back in the 100 (to the tune of 2.9 m/s), but his time of 10.52 is an all-conditions CA #1.
  • Suzie Acolatse (Mission Hills) clocked 24.24 CA #3 in the 200, and she also ran 11.75 in the 100. Missi Mongiovi (West Hills) ran 55.96 CA #5 while winning the 400.
  • Hannah Labrie-Smith (Cathedral Catholic) set a new season best of 42.82 in the 300 Hurdles, moving up to CA #2 and US #10. She helped Cathedral Catholic to the win in an extremely competitive 4x400; their time of 3:51.67 CA #3 US #19 was just in front of Carondelet and Arcadia.
  • Three girls jumped over 19 feet in this meet: Lovie Burleson (Vista Murrieta, 19' 4.25" CA #4 US #8) won, while Redlands teammates Juanita Webster and Margaux Jones tied at 19' 0.25" CA #5.
  • Christina Chenault (Carondelet) won the triple jump with a CA #3 US #10 mark of 39' 8.25".
