Tucson (AZ) Salpointe Catholic juniors Michael Urbanski and Diego Veliz took control mid-race and were shoulder to shoulder until the final stride when Veliz lost his footing just before the finish and Urbanski claimed his first race victory (16:19.6). Veliz, although hurting from the fall, managed to cross second (16:27.1) with local Ken Belt of Scripps Ranch (SD) third in 16:25.5.
