Woodberry Forest rising senior Kevin Bennert (pictured left by John Herzog) clocked a significant personal best at 5000 meters on Thursday at the USATF National Junior Olympic Championships in Sacramento, California with his third place finish of 15:01.08 in the young men's division. Bennert now has the fastest 5K personal best among all returnees in Virginia for the upcoming cross country season. Competing for his summer club team Track Eastern from his hometown of New Bern, NC (attends boarding school at Woodberry Forest School in Woodberry Forest, VA), Bennert dropped a total of 20 seconds from his cross country 5K best last fall this morning. One of arguably the top five returning distance runners in the state for this fall, Bennert concluded his outdoor season at Woodberry Forest on a high note running personal bests of 4:18 in the 1600 at the VISAA State Championships then running 9:23 for full two miles at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals.
