Meet Information
2024 Rio Linda Knight Invite
Roy Hayer Park, Rio Linda, CA
October 19, 2024
8:15 am Coaches Meeting, 9 am First Race
Welcome:
You are invited to run at the Rio Linda Knight Invite. After many hiccups and extra planning that needed to be done getting this invite going this year we plan on running our annual Knight Invite as many have anticipated. This will be a great last chance at a PR for the season or a good tune up for Flat Sac. This years race course will no longer follow the previous course. The current courses are a 3400 two loop and a 5000m 3 loop course following the same paths.
Course:
The race course is well-marked, but athletes should know their course. We do not have a lead or follow bike and have limited course monitoring. Both races follow the same course. The 3400m course is two park loops and the finish straight. The 5k course is 3 park loops and the finish straight. We will count athletes at the start of each race so please have athletes be mindful of this. If any of your runners drop out please let the finish line know. Start lines for each race are located at the South end of the park and a common finish located on the North side. The start lines are about 200 ft from one other.
The course will be almost entirely run on grass (not golf course quality) and some dirt. As expensive alternatives squeeze cross country courses to their limits this is a great course alternative to our previous course which is currently unable to be used. Again it will be looped laps which we understand is not ideal. This does however make it extremely spectator friendly.
Although we take great time in preparing the course, runners should be aware of uneven terrain/ footing throughout the entirety of the course. Known hazards are marked to the best of our ability. As the course is very spectator-friendly we ask that you reiterate to stay clear of the course as much as possible and be vigilant of athletes who are racing.
Boxes will be marked at the start line, but not assigned. Each team should be in their own box at the start. Any falls before the track will result in a restart.
The finish line is on the outside (right) North turn of the course between road and course. Please make sure your runners are aware of the finish line location and do not finish their race early. Coaches please help direct your athletes with laps and the finish as there will be no official starter/ referee. We will make every effort to direct athletes the right way in this area. Please emphasize to athletes to stay in finish order, don't let other athletes pass out of order in the finish shoot, make it down the finish shoot as fast as possible, and be ready for their information to be recorded (usually a pull tag on bib or finish card).
ENTRIES:
Entries will be done through Milesplit this year. This is my first year integrating Milesplit due to athletic.net fees. Please be patient as I may have questions as well. You will need an account and time to set it up and add athletes. If you don't have an account please don't wait until the last minute to set up and add.
