Before pandemic shut down CIF TF season, Westlake HS junior broke CA record as part of impressive 14-foot progression.
On Feb. 22 at the Thousand Oaks Lancer Invitational, Westlake junior Paige Sommers cleared 14 feet 6 inches in the pole vault breaking the previous California state high school record of 14-05.50 set by Rachel Baxter (Anaheim Canyon) in 2017. Sommers' mark ranks No. 4 in prep high school history.
Despite waking up sick and using unfamiliar poles, the junior vaulted into history.
