Schools from all over the nation are coming to run on the track that hosts OUR state meet, and our athletes are ready to compete.

Since MileSplit came to North Carolina, no boy has dominated the distance races in one season like Craig Engels this year.

Sammy George (Millbrook) used a huge 800 PR to move up into a tie for the top spot, while the boys' leader is no surprise.

Colin Godwin had a huge weekend, while Charlotte Country Day and Cary Academy earned team titles.

Ravenscroft's Wesley Frazier posted a nation-leading 1600 time, and also helped her team to a state-leading relay time.

Dempsey Fieldhouse, one of the fastest tracks in the world, hosts seven NC athletes among an elite national field.

The energy was palpable Saturday night at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Massachusetts as a handpicked field of elite athletes from all levels of the sport thrilled the capacity crowd with photo finishes and mid-race drama.  But, you are bound to get some amazing races when you take a group of high school athletes, put them in a room with their idols, pack a building full of over 4,000 fans, and then turn on the TV cameras.

A stacked field has been assembled for both mile races, and the addition of the boys 4x800m and girls 4x400m has given high school track fans even more to cheer for.  The Reggie Lewis Center track is considered a relatively fast surface, and if athletes get after it early, we may see some jaw dropping times.

Meet directors of the New Balance Grand Prix announced the high school fields on Wednesday afternoon, with the boys and girls mile races highlighting the prep action.  In years past, the race has focused on athletes from New England and the New York Metro area, but this year’s field has expanded to include athletes from as far away as North Carolina.

Nathan Weitz focuses on Jake Leingang & Tony Smoragiewicz on his way to third (picture by Colleen Collins) This year offered two fine racesto add to the over three decade tradition of the Foot Locker National Championships.  Northwest harrier fans had much to like as well with Nathan Weitz, Andrew Gardner & Dallin Farnsworth all placing in the top eleven.   For the girls Washington's Jordan McPhee and Idaho's Emily Nist  represented the region.

US#1 Julie Macedo and US#8 Haley Pierce battled each other relentlessly in Delaware this past weekend, with Haley collapsing and Julie finishing 2nd after staggering close to the finish.  US#4 Grace Tinkey is back and won a state title with the only sub-18 time on the day.  US#6 Erin Finn won her state title in MI and looks poised for a great championship season ahead.  US#7 Katie Knight blasted a 17:10 5k in WA to win a state title and run the fastest time in the state by far.  Full updates on each athletes recent accomplishments are below.  Be sure to click on each athletes name to see times, articles, photos and interviews of each athlete if available.
