Every week, we will bring you members of the freshman and/or the sophomore classes who are having good seasons who we believe might become leaders or stars in the sport
In this edition of California's Future Stars, it's time to focus on the sophomore who moved up from lane one to five, who's leading the state in the 300m hurdles.
Brandon Andrade out of Etiwanda was no doubt a future star last year as a Freshman after he finished the season with a 40.28 at the CIF Southern Section Finals. However, he's now in another stratosphere. Look no further than what he's done in the last two weeks.
At the Arcadia Invitational, Andrade ran 37.09 out of lane one in the invitational section to finish fourth in the 300m hurdles. He secured the California lead in the 300m hurdles in that race and went on to strengthen that rank at the Mt. SAC Relays.
Last week, he went to battle with Jayden Rendon to win the Mt. SAC Relays to break the elusive 37 barrier, only as a sophomore. The absolute shock across Andrade's face is worth a thousand words after seeing his time. He still expressed sheer gratitude for his ability to run so fast at a young age. Andrade's time of 36.76 makes him the second fastest 300m hurdler in California sophomore history, only behind the legendary Reggie Wyatt.
He also ran an impressive 14.13 in the 110m hurdles, setting a new personal record to finish fourth, which suggests that he may be capable of even more coming into the postseason.
