After the Arcadia Invitational and 65th Annual Mt. SAC Relays, the Southern Section in California looks more dangerous than ever before going into the start of CIF. Every year, the Southern Section produces some of the best athletes in California, but this year the depth appears exceptionally strong. 

The depth hasn't changed on the girls' side, but some event leaders are not what most predicted at this point in the season. Look no further than the 100m, where Journey Cole resides as the leader at 11.36 from the Arcadia Invitational. Above, Cole touches on how she spent last school year in Washington and is back in California, running better than ever.

Amira Whitehead and Kadence Bain are other great examples who have surprised the entire Southern Section with their improvement. Whitehead ran 53.77 to win the 400m at the Mt. SAC Relays to secure the SS and CA lead.

Then there's Bain, who is ranked second in the 100m hurdles and fifth in the 300m hurdles. These sophomores have shaken up their events in the last three weeks and emerged as challengers for the CIF Section championships.

With the league championships coming up next week, expect more shake-ups as all girls in the Southern Section will be looking for a spot at CIF Prelims.
