CA Future Stars: Arcadia Rising Stars 1 Mile Winner

Every week, we will bring you members of the freshman and/or the sophomore classes who are having good seasons who we believe might become leaders or stars in the sport

In this edition of California's Future Stars, it's only right to highlight the winner of Arcadia's Rising Stars 1 Mile, which has built an excellent reputation to showcase the future of mid-distance running.

The sophomore, Aidan Antonio of Woodbridge High School, controlled the Rising Stars 1 Mile from the front for about the entire race. Antonio led the first three laps through 3:14, until he was challenged by a few competitors who took the lead. This didn't last long as Antonio jumped back to the front on the back stretch and never looked back to win the race with a 58-second last lap.

He ran a personal record of 4:15.59 for the mile and 4:12.04 for the 1600m. In the 1600m, he claimed the top spot in the state for sophomores and the 4th fastest sophomore time in the nation.

Antonio is continuing to improve after starting his season at 4:17, and in the process, he has captured a lot of victories. His other notable wins this season include the Orange County Championships and the Triton Invitational.

One of the most impressive parts of the sophomore's performance at Arcadia is that the night before, he ran 9:09.96 in the 3200m Open race. A double of 4:12 and 9:09 is a great starting point for Antonio and indicates great promise for him going forward beyond this season.
