In recent years, the California Winter Track and Field Championships have served as a fantastic springboard for a great season.

Last year, the boys' 600m winner, Xai Ricks, went on to become the California State champion in the 400m dash. The girls' 600m winner from 2024, Makenna Herbst, went on to place second in the 800m at the California State meet and is currently the fastest in the nation.

This year, our 600m champion is one of the most improved athletes from the 2024 championship. Trajan Cephas won the 600m by six-thousandths of a second and improved his time by 4.69 seconds from last season.

In our interview, Cephas stated that his goal to run 1:50 in the 800m has become "more achievable" after crossing the line first in the 600m dash.

Brooke Blume takes it this year as the most improved 600m runner at the Winter Championships. The sophomore ran 1:47.48 last season and PR'ed by 8.85 seconds to run a modest 1:38.63. Blume moved up from 62nd last year to a charging 7th place finish to become the most improved in 2025.

Charles Harger also saw a major improvement in 2024. He improved by 4.98 seconds to become the most improved boy on the list.
