Once again the odds are in the favor of a Southern Section team being a podium team at the state meet. Eight of the Top Ten teams on this list are from the SS, and they are joined by Central HS and Buchanan HS, both of the Central Section.
Coming in as the top seed is Wilson-Long Beach HS, a team consistently ranked in the Top 10 for this event. At the moment, their top four runners average a 00:49.45 for the quarter mile, and three of them dip under the fifty-second mark. They lead the next team in line, Culver City HS, by close to fifty points.
If we skip down to third, we have Cathedral HS, who also has a group of three athletes going sub-50 in the 400m, but are helped greatly by Ambodai Ligons' 00:47.69, which is currently the #2 time in the state. Culver City HS, currently the #2 team on this list, has a much better 1-4 man split than Cathedral HS, but the Phantoms' average is just a bit faster than Culver City's.
