Similar to last week's ranking of combined performances, being able to have an event like the 600m is great for both sprinters and distance runners alike. Those who would normally run the quarter mile in the regular season have a chance to up-en their endurance by racing the 600m, and distance runners sticking to an 800/1600 double get an opportunity to work on leg speed dropping down in distance to a little over a "bell lap".
On the boy's side, we have Alden Morales of JSerra Catholic clocking 3:08.1 for a combined total of both events. He is currently the #1 seed in the state for the 800m after running a 1:49.9 at the JSerra Invitational in mid-February. Ambodai Ligons of Cathedral HS has the fastest 600m seed on this list after running 1:17.8 and placing runner-up at the CA Winter State Championships. The Southern Section is displaying dominance in this mid-distance event as sixteen of the twenty top combined returners all stem from the SS.
