Who was the top boys track and field athlete in the Class of 2026? Below are four candidates looking for your votes. These candidates all rank among the top-5 nationally in the class in their respective events.

NOAH SMITH

Long Beach Poly (SS)

Noah is among the elite quarter milers nationally in the class. His 48.19 clocking at Southern Section Masters is the second-fastest 400-meters in the class nationally and earned him a spot on the line at State Prelims. He was also a member of the State Meet champion 4x400m relay team that ran a CA-leading and U.S. No. 9 time of 3:12.99. In the State Final, Noah split 48.07 on his lead-off leg. 


DESHONNE REDEAUX

Oaks Christian (SS)

One of the nation's top sprinters in the class. Deshonne has top-6 U.S. times nationally in both the 100-meter dash and 200m dash. He ranks U.S. No. 5 in the class for 100 meters, both windy (10.42/3.3) and wind-legal (10.50/1.4). His 200m best of 21.31 (1.7) for second place in the Division 4 Prelims, ranks U.S. No. 6 in the class. He ran 10.54 for fifth place in the 100m at SS Masters, earning a spot at State Prelims.


CAMERON YARBROUGH

Del Norte (SD)

Cameron is an elite four-lap distance runner in the class with top-4 times nationally in both the mile and 1600 meters. Ranks U.S. No. 2 in the class for his 1600m PR of 4:13.04 from the San Diego Section Division 1 Prelims. His time in the mile of 4:19.33 from Arcadia ranks U.S. No. 4 in the class. He also had four-lap performances of 4:16.28 from Dick Wilkins F/S Invite, and 4:17.46 from the Mt. Carmel Invite, times that are also faster than CA No. 2 and among U.S. top-11 times.


MAXIMO ZAVALETA

King (SS)

An elite eight-lap runner, ranking U.S. No. 2 in the class for 3200 meters where his his 9:07.50 performance placed fifth at the Southern Section Division 1 championship. That finish earned him a spot on the line at SS Masters. There he ran 9:12.15 for ninth place, a time surpassed by only three other freshman boys nationally. Maximo was the Big VIII League runner-up in both the 3200m and the 1600m, where he ran a 4:20.99 PR.
