These combined rankings leaders are produced by pulling the top 100 performances in the 800-meter run, then adding the top 100 marks in the 1600-meter run. Athletes without times in both events were eliminated and the top marks for the remaining athletes were added together to get this rankings list.

Because the 800m is the foundation for this data article, athletes must have had a top-100 mark in that event to be included. Athletes with a high ranking in the 1600m without a top-100 mark in the 800m are not included.
