The MileSplitCA All-State Cross Country teams are subjective selections based on results within the class at the State Meet, section championships, and marquee events like the Clovis Invitational. Each team is limited to seven on the line. We also conducted polls through our partners at FanPower to select a runner of the year for each class. Those winners are acknowledged above and with a banner photo. Congratulations to the awesome Class of 2025!

MILESPLITCA ALL-STATE SOPHOMORE BOYS XC

FIRST TEAM

(Listed alphabetically)

BENJAMIN BOUIE (Crystal Springs Uplands/CC)

There were five sophomore boys among the top 10 in the Division V race at State, but none was more vital than Bouie whose fifth place finish in 15:35.95 allowed the Gryphons to annex their first CIF-State Meet team championship by just four points over Menlo. Bouie placed second in the section championships with a 15:23.70 over 2.95 miles, as Crystal Springs Uplands won the title.

TREY CALDWELL (De La Salle/NC)

When Caldwell placed third in the North Coast Section with a PR 14:58.96, it started a strong finish that included placing ninth at the State Meet in 15:21.17 over 5K before crossing eighth in the Champs West Regional, qualifying for the Nationals where he was 30th in 15:47.80.

ELI FITCHEN-YOUNG (Santa Cruz/CC)

Three invitational victories and a pair of runner-up finishes set up Fitchen-Young to win the Central Coast Section championship with a time of 15:24.7 over 2.95 miles. Two weeks later, Fitchen-Young sped to a time of 15:28.30, a personal best, at Woodward Park to place sixth in the Division IV race at State.

BROEN HOLMAN (Sonora/SJ)

Clocking a time of 15:12.34, Holman placed third in Division III at the State Meet. That time was the second-fastest 5K of the day by a sophomore over the Woodward Park course behind only Evan Noonan's 15:04.3. Holman was the San-Joaquin Section titlist at 15:32.70 and was 22nd in the Champs National meet in San Diego.

EVAN NOONAN (Dana Hills/SS)

When Noonan won the Mt. SAC Invitational 3-mile at 14:49.00, he boldly predicted greater times ahead. Sure enough, Noonan was untouchable down the stretch as he captured the CIF-SS Division III crown at 15:03.70 before adding the State title in 15:04.23, a 5K PR and a 13-second margin of victory. He placed 46th at the Team Nationals.

LANDON PRETRE (Menlo School/CC)

Pretre, and his senior brother Justin, led the No. 2 small school team in the state, as they placed a close second to Crystal Springs Uplands at both the Central Coast Section and State Meet championships. Landon Pretre was fourth in Clovis, running 15:34.73 after first turning heads with a 14:06.70 at Woodbridge where he placed 10th. That was the fastest 3-mile by a sophomore all season.

EYAN TURK (Woodcrest Christian/SS)

There was a good reason Turk was one of the favorites going into the D-V race at State after he won the CIF-SS title in 15:14.60 on top of 3-mile victories at Central Park (14:59.20) and the Inland Empire (14:37.80). Turk was the first sophomore in D-V at Woodward Park, placing third in 15:28.08.

SECOND TEAM

Andrew Burr (Sacramento Country Day/SJ) - The Sac-Joaquin Section champion collected a 5K PR of 15:42.28 by placing ninth in the State Division V championships. Burr was third in his race at Woodbridge at 14:54.50.

Carson Hedlund (Pioneer/CC) - The next finisher behind Noonan at State was Hedlund in 10th. He clocked a 15:30.72, a PR at 5K on the Woodward Park course, the eighth fastest time for 10th-graders overall.

Griffin Kushen (Tesoro/SS) - Kushen sped to a 14:30.60 at Woodbridge, the fifth fastest 3-mile time in the state overall, and placed 14th in the State Championships at 15:31.22, a personal best 5K.

Ben Olney (Yosemite/CS) - (at right in photo) He and his brother Jack battled all year and Ben proved faster at State, finishing 10th in D-V at 15:44.87. He captured the Central Section title in 16:02.14.

Jack Olney (Yosemite/CS) - (at left in photo) Not that Jack was slow as he was second boosting Yosemite to the Central Section D-5 team title in 16:17:57 before placing 15th in the State Meet at 15:50.77.

Zion Ortiz (Burroughs Ridgecrest/SS) - Ortiz held on to finish eighth in the State D-IV championships where he clocked a 15:31.47. He placed second in the CIF-SS finals at 15:04.90.

Aydon Stefanopoulos (Los Gatos/CC) - His 15:14.63 over 5K was the third-fastest sophomore time, earning Stefanopoulos a fifth place medal in the D-II race at State after placing fourth in the sectionals.
