Junior Miles Jones and freshman Chloe Leduc won individual titles while leading their respective Oakland Tech cross country teams to victory on Wednesday at the CIF-Oakland Section Finals at Lake Chabot Golf Course.

Jones won the boys race in 16 minutes, 54.76 seconds over the 5,000-meter layout, well in front of Skyline senior Andy Ixtabalan Argueta, the 2021 champion, who placed second in 17:30.53.

Junior Alexi Leduc, second last year, placed third in 18:08.78 for Oakland Tech, a 20-point winner over Skyline for the section's only berth into the Nov. 26 CIF-State Championship meet at Woodward Park in Fresno.

Sophomores Oliver Arnold (18:48.99) and Gus Schafer (19:28.04), and junior Cezar Gomez (19:33.08) paraded across the finish line in 6-7-8 succession as Oakland Tech put up 25 points.

Seniors Ronan Cavanaugh (18:43.38) and Roman St. Gerard (19:38.51) placed fifth and ninth, respectively.

Oakland High junior Yosef Amaha placed fourth (18:34.57) joined Skyline's Argueta and Cavanaugh earning at-large individual berths to the State Meet. Up to five individuals not on the qualifying team who finish among the top eight earned State Meet berths.

Only two points separated the top two girls teams in the Oakland Section, with Oakland Tech getting the narrow 34-36 victory over Skyline.

Chloe Leduc ran the 5K course in 21:07.08, some 79 seconds out front of section runner-up junior Jessica Vogel of Skyline (22:16.71). Junior Lily Seiberlich placed third for Tech, freshman Sophia Doane placed ninth, sophomore Harper Carlson was 11th, and senior Josie Green placed 17th overall, more than 5:23 behind Leduc yet her finish closed out the victory for Oakland Tech.

Juniors Karina Larrieta Ceron and Charlotte Seven placed sixth and seventh, respectively, and sophomores Komogodje Bagayoko and Sylvie Arestides were 15th and 16th for Skyline.

Oakland Charter junior Trisha Ho, sixth last year, placed fourth and Castlemont senior Roselin Saavedra-Silva placed fifth, and joined Vogel, Ceron and Seven earning State Meet at-large individual spots.

A year ago, Skyline swept the team titles from Oakland Tech, winning the boys convincingly by 23 points, and the girls by just one point.
