This article highlights the results of a semifinal-round dual as part of the MileSplitCA March Madness Virtual Meet Tournament. Virtual meets are scored based solely on 2020 outdoor results using the standard dual meet scoring points format of 5-3-1 for individuals and 5-0 for relays. Athletes are scored in no more than four events (although the Virtual Meet program that processes the meet scores does not have access to individuals in a relay). Teams are limited to three athletes per event. Stay with us for the entire tournament to see which boys and girls teams reign supreme in this virtual meet format.
GIRLS SEMIFINAL RECAP & RESULTS
No. 5 Buchanan (CS) vs. No. 8 Etiwanda (SS)
Junior Kennedi Porter had three race wins as Etiwanda dominated the sprints and also had a shutout in the relays but the versatile depth of Buchanan was too much as the Bears moved into the girls bracket championship with a 86-50 victory in a semifinal of the MileSplitCA March Madness Virtual Dual Meet Tournament.
Buchanan was especially strong in the distances, hurdles and jumps, forging a 70-11 advantage across those three event groups.
Fifth-seeded Buchanan (CS) will be scored against No. 3 Santa Margarita (SS) in the girls bracket championship later this week.
Porter's early 2020 outdoor best in the 100m (12.07/1.3), 200m (25.04/0.4) and 400m (58.10) were the best of this matchup, pulling in 15 points as part of a 24-3 Etiwanda advantage in the sprints.
Porter's time in the 100m ranks CA No. 3 for marks achieved before the 2020 outdoor season was stopped. Her 200m time ranks CA No. 7 and her 400m time is tied for CA No. 16.
Senior Corie Smith and freshman Grace Hutchison led Buchanan to a 26-1 advantage in the distances.
Smith's 4:58.64 ranks CA No. 2 and and U.S. No. 13 for 1600m and her 10.45.15 for 3200m ranks CA No. 2 and U.S. No. 15.
The junior trio of Alexa Dandridge, Delaney Custer and Helen Chu went 1-2-3 in both hurdles, an 18-0 sweep for the Bears. Dandridge's time for the 300m hurdles of 46.24 ranks CA No. 8.
Buchanan was also strong in the jumps, led by junior Lauren Fowler, who had the top long jump mark, sophomore Maddy Passmore, best in the triple jump, and frosh Jordan Leveque, whose 9-0 pole vault was the best of this matchup. Freshman McKenna Chaney also had an event win leading a Buchanan sweep of the discus throw.
Other event winners for Etiwanda were senior Aaliyah Mendoza (HJ) and freshman Sinaiah Pointer (SP).
