This article highlights the results of a quarterfinal-round dual as part of the MileSplitCA March Madness Virtual Meet Tournament. Virtual meets are scored based solely on 2020 results using the standard dual meet scoring points format of 5-3-1 for individuals and 5-0 for relays. Athletes are scored in no more than four events (although the program that processes the meet scores does not have access to individuals in a relay). Teams are limited to three athletes per event. Stay with us for the entire tournament to see which boys and girls teams reign supreme in this virtual meet format.

No. 8 Etiwanda (SS) vs. No. 17 Yucaipa (SS)

Senior Sinaiah Pointer, junior Kennedi Porter and freshman Macie Powell led No. 8 Etiwanda (SS) to a four-point victory over No. 17 Yucaipa (SS) in a girls bracket quarterfinal of the MileSplitCA March Madness Virtual Dual Meet Tournament.

Etiwanda's 70-66 victory, the closest meet yet in the girls tournament, eliminated a Thunderbirds team that had previously knocked off No. 1 seeded Roosevelt by five points, a margin that had been the closest result of this event.

Etiwanda will be scored against No. 5 Buchanan (CS) and No. 2 Upland (SS) will be scored against No. 3 Santa Margarita (SS) in the girls bracket semifinals. The programs at Buchanan and Upland each have boys and girls teams playing for a spot in the championship.

Pointer was a double winner in the throws leading a 13-5 event group advantage. Porter contributed 13 of Etiwanda's 14 point in the sprints, including wins in the 100m and 200m. Powell, with eight points, was Etiwanda's top scorer as part of a 32-4 domination of the jumps. Powell was one of seven Etiwanda scorers in that event category, which included a three-way tie in the pole vault at 7-foot-6, a critical 9-0 sweep for the Eagles.

Yucaipa was led by senior Danielle Gee with 10 points in the distances, junior Eryn Burke with 10 points in the sprints, and junior Jordan Burke with six points in the sprints and hurdles. Yucaipa also had sweeps in both the hurdles and relays, a 28-0 advantage.
