This article highlights the results of second-round dual as part of the MileSplitCA March Madness Virtual Meet Tournament. Virtual meets are scored based solely on 2020 results using the standard dual meet scoring points format of
5-3-1 for individuals and 5-0 for relays. Athletes are scored in no more than four events (although the program that processes the meet scores does not have access to individuals in a relay). Teams are limited to three athletes per event. Stay with us for the entire tournament to see which boys and girls teams reign supreme in this virtual meet format.

No. 1 Roosevelt (SS) vs. No. 17 Yucaipa (SS)

UPSET ALERT! Oh, the MADNESS!

Only a couple of meets into the second round of this girls virtual dual tournament and our first No. 1 team has fallen!

By the tightest margin yet, No. 17 Yucaipa (SS) pulls the biggest stunner of the competition, knocking off No. 1 Roosevelt (SS).

Leading the way for the Thunderbirds is junior Eryn Burke, who picked up a winning five points in the 400m and a runner-up three points in the 200m. Burke's 25.29 (-0.7) ranks CA No. 16 for marks recorded before the 2020 outdoor season was interrupted and her 57.29 ranks No. 9.

Among the other contributors to Yucaipa's victory: Sophomore Cana Neal snuck in for three points in the 800m, senior Danielle Gee and junior Cassidy Jarish went 1-2 in leading 9-0 sweeps in both the 1600m and 3200m, junior Rachael Peters was a winner in the long jump and was second behind sophomore Elizabeth Betten as part of a sweep of the triple jump, senior Madison Henderson added five points with a win in the shot put and junior Genesis Salazar led a sweep of the discus throw.

Roosevelt got big points from sophomore Naomi Johnson, who won the 100m, 200m and placed second in the 400m. Johnson's 11.95 (0.5) ranks CA No. 2 and U.S. No. 7 for girls in the class of 2022. Her 24.70 for 200m ranks CA No. 2.

Also for Roosevelt, sophomore Jenna Lacuata had the fastest time in the 800m, senior Myah Hatcher was first in both hurdles, junior Thalia Brandon won the high jump, and junior Sophia Perez added five points in the pole vault.

Hatcher's 45.43 in the 300mH ranks CA No. 4.
