This article highlights the results of first-round dual as part of the MileSplitCA March Madness Virtual Meet Tournament. Virtual meets are scored based solely on 2020 results using the standard dual meet scoring points format of 5-3-1 for individuals and 5-0 for relays. Athletes are scored in no more than four events. No. 5 BUCHANAN (CS) vs. No. 28 QUARTZ HILL (SS)

Corie Smith, runner-up in the 3200m at the CIF-State Meet last May while helping Buchanan to the girls team title, won both the 1600m and 3200m as the Bears claimed 20 of 27 points in the distances as part of a first-round virtual meet victory over Quartz Hill, 96.66-39.33.

Smith's times -- 4:58.64/10:45.15 -- both ranked No. 2 in CA when competition was stopped barely into the fourth week of the outdoor season. 

Smith, a senior headed to Arkansas, added a third-place point to her two five-point victories by scoring in the 800m (2:25.16). Freshman Sydney Sundgren scored runner-up points in both the 16 and 32 and another member of Buchanan's amazing class of 2023, Grace Hutchison, scored runner-up points in both the 8 and 16. 

Senior Iman Babineaux did her thing, with top times in the 200 and 400 and second-place points in the 100, as Quartz Hill scored 23 of its 39.33 points in the sprints.

Next: Buchanan will go up against the winner between No. 12 Clovis North (CS) and No. 21 Vallejo (NC).
