This article highlights the results of first-round dual as part of the MileSplitCA March Madness Virtual Meet Tournament. Virtual meets are scored based solely on 2020 results using the standard dual meet scoring points format of 5-3-1 for individuals and 5-0 for relays. Athletes are scored in no more than four events. No. 12 CLOVIS NORTH (CS) vs. No. 21 VALLEJO (NC)
The Class of 2022 is pretty darn special on the girls side at Clovis North. Led by sophomore Takiya Cenci and Miliana Perez, Clovis North was a runaway winner over Vallejo in a first-round virtual dual track meet tournament.
Cenci had the top times in the 100m and 200m dashes, earning 10 points, and Perez pulled in another 10 points in the 800m and 1600m. Cenci's 200m time of 24.69 ranks No. 1 in CA based on results before the 2020 outdoor season was stopped.
Tatum Zinkin, another Clovis North soph, had the best time in the 400m as Clovis North dominated the sprints and distances to the tune of 45-0.
Vallejo senior Sameerah Evans did her best attempt at disproving the rule that it takes more than one athlete to advance in this tournament by scoring 15 points by herself with top marks in the 100m hurdles, long jump and triple jump. Evans time in the hurdles of 14.77 ranks CA No. 3 for all-conditions and her triple jump mark of 40-1 ranks CA No. 2 and U.S. No. 5.
Next: Clovis North will face league rival Buchanan (CS) in a second-round virtual for a spot in the girls elite eight.
