No. 9 ST. ANTHONY (SS) vs. No. 24 VISTA DEL LAGO (SJ)

It's hard to know just how much the virtual dual format would actually translate into reality but if this result is any indication, watch out for the Vista del Lago girls!

The Folsom-based school from the Sacramento area had eight individual event winners including two double-event winners in moving on past St. Anthony in a first-round matchup in the MileSplitCA virtual dual track meet team tournament. Our power rankings-based seeding certainly didn't account for Vista del Lago's depth across multiple event categories, which in this format, is a recipe for an extended run in our version of the Big Dance.

Senior Ceonna Pipion had the top time in the 400m of 56.93, which ranks No. 3 in CA based on results achieved before the outdoor season was suspended.

Pipion has plenty of help on this VdL squad, including senior Haley Wilson, with top marks in both the long jump and triple jump, senior Emalee Walker, with top marks in both throws, and these event winners: senior Jamalia Rosegreen (200m), junior Anna Vogtmann (800m, and second in the 1600m), sophomore Alexandra Klos (1600m), senior Maya Barragan (3200m) and senior Sky Kezmoh (pole vault).

Klos' time for 1600m of 4:54.91 ranks CA No. 1 and U.S. No 6 for outdoor season marks achieved before the season was interrupted.

Sophomore Asjah Atkinson had the top times in both hurdles for Long Beach-based St. Anthony.  Her 100m hurdles time of 14.46 is the fastest in CA and ranks U.S. No. 26 for all-conditions. Her 300m hurdles clocking of 44.71 ranks CA No. 3 and is U.S. top 50.
