Carlie Dorostkar, who took the fall cross country season by storm and became a CIF-State champion, has been recognized as the California Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year by Gatorade, as part of its national "Player of the Year" program.
Dorostkar, a senior at Canyon Crest Academy in San Diego, who recorded the nation's fastest 3-mile time during the fall season, put up a jaw-dropping historical time in winning the CIF-State Division I title and was the fastest California girl at the Nike Cross Nationals, had previously earned MileSplitCA Girls Runner of the Year honors.

The Gatorade State Player of the Year award winners are evaluated and selected on the basis of three criteria:
Athletic Excellence - Standout performance in their respective sport made at the high school, club, national or international levels of competition.
Academic Achievement - Review of GPA and class rank, as well as SAT and ACT scores, and academic honors distinctions.
Exemplary Character - Commitment to sportsmanship, character and community through membership and participation in positive activities.
