Girls Coundown to XC Day 13: Granada Hills

This could be the best girls team from the LA City Section since Palisades finished 14th at the Division 1 state meet in 2013. Granada Hills ranks in the top 15 in the state by both 5K and 3 Mile returning times, and their year-to-year improvement at 3 Miles has been excellent over the past three fall seasons. Sofia Abrego is a legit #1 runner (she should push for a place in the top 10 in her division after running 4:51 and 10:35 on the track) and behind her the Highlanders have a 2-5 pack separated by only 54 seconds. My main concern from their returning XC rankings, a lack of depth, was largely addressed during track season: this team put 5 returners under 5:30 and a total of seven under 5:40. Returning #6 runner Sydney Olofe, in particular, seemed to improve a lot, posting the 3rd-best 1600 time on the squad; likewise, #7 Arianna Gonzalez ran 12:25 for the 3200. If those two push for spots in the top 5 this fall, the Highlanders could be the first LA team to crack the top 10 in Division 1 in a very long time.
