2018 ended in disappointment for Clovis West, as the Golden Eagles fell just short of the state meet with a 4th-place finish in the Central Section Division 1 race. The good news: they return all seven runners from that squad, including five rising seniors that should provide excellent motivation and leadership. It seems like the team has already used the unfinished business to fuel progress during track season, where they put 4 runners under 10 minutes and 7 at 10:17 or faster (separated by a total of 29 seconds 1-7). That includes returning #5 Brayden Costales clocking the 2nd-fastest 3200 on the team, an excellent omen for the fall. This team will be at its best if its top 4 runners are pushing each other in practice and races, and if they come out of the summer with everyone healthy expect a state meet run. But can they crack the top 10 once there?
