MileSplitCA visited with some of the returning CIF-State Track and Field champions for the purpose of filming a regular practice to produce a series of videos we are calling 'Workout of a State Champion.'
In this installment, we visited with CIF-Stat shot put champion Jocelynn Budwig, a senior at Fowler HS. Our visit was on Feb. 1, as she was still in preparation for the start of the outdoor season.
Budwig, who has signed with Auburn University, won the shot put competition at the State Meet in June with a best of 46-11. It was her 18th victory in 20 meets during her junior season. Budwig also medaled at the State Finals in the discus throw, with a finals best of 160-1 for third place. Her 174-2 PR in prelims is the No. 1 throw among returning athletes in the U.S.
Budgwig's shot put PR of 47-7 is the No. 1 returning mark in CA and No. 3 in the country.
The Budwig family has a long history at Fowler. Jocelynn's mother, Jaylene, is the school's head coach, and her father, Jeff, is the throws coach. Both have been at the school for three decades.
In this video, we get to watch Jocelynn warm up, go through both a shot put and discus throw practice, and end the day in the weight room. We hear from Jocelynn and from her father, Jeff.
