4. Foot Locker Champ Cole Hocker Goes For The Indiana State Record In The Mile
- - -
In his first meet of the season, and potentially of 2019, Hocker stepped up right into an Indiana state record, going 4:12.70 in the mile to win the Indiana Runner Sprint & Distance Showcase.
That time represented a 11-second progression year-over-year for the Foot Locker Nationals champ and Oregon signee, and it could be a signal of things to come.
Hocker's performance surpassed Matt Dorsey's 4:14.42 from 2013 at New Balance Nationals Indoor.
While as a junior Hocker raced just once indoors, there's a chance the Indiana native could try his hand at nationals in March at NBNI.
That 4:12.70, a new Indiana No. 1 time, puts him in the wheelhouse as one of the country's best at the distance.
