One name shines above all the rest --
Jeff Duensing of Esperanza.  Legendary throws coach Bill Pendleton plans on retiring after his graduation BUT, that will have to wait until 2020 as the junior continued to dominate the competition in 2018.  Able to capture two individual events in 2018, Duensing measured out to 182-7 in his Division 3 discus title while also capturing the shot put title with a mark of 61-02.5.  After a frustrating Discus session at the State Meet, he came back in the shot put to unleash a 61-06.75 effort to take the runner-up spot on the California State Meet podium!  He is one of the favorites for the state title in both events and also one of the best in the nation - and yep, he's still a junior!  Along with teammates, Yusef Hashem and Diego Reynoso, the trio project to score 35 points in both throws this upcoming May!

Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks continually boasts some of the best throwers in the section.  Quinten Lyons returns after placing fourth at the 2018 California State Meet in the shot put.  Lyons was runner-up to Duensing in the shot put while placing third a year ago in the Discus.  Teammate Justin Swanson also returns as one of the top shot putters in the division.   Finally, Corona del Mar's Cole White is also a top contender in both events as well.
