Countdown to XC Day 19: Campolindo Boys

This is a tough team to project. The Cougars did lose three seniors from their 2017 squad, which finished 2nd in the NCS D2 race and then took 5th at the state meet. On the other hand, Campolindo has quite a bit of returning talent, including three of their top 4 from last November. That includes returning #1 Edward Buckley and also rising sophomore Dylan Gunn, who was the 4th-best freshman 3200 runner in the state this track season and likely has quite a bit of improvement still ahead of him. Campolindo had a rock solid spring in the 3200 overall, with their returning top 3 all posting sub-10 times - and watch out for Cameron Iniguez-Reyes, who ran JV in the fall but posted the team's 4th-best 3200 on the track. Finally, the Cougars have been one of California's best at improving from season to season over the last three years, which gives me confidence that they will shore up their depth and close up their pack with a strong summer. I think this Campolindo team will be at least as good as last year's, and has a good chance to be even better.

The purpose of the Countdown To XC is not to predict the top 30 teams in the state for the upcoming season (although we certainly hope that the top 15-20 teams are included in the countdown at some point). The goal is to recognize thirty teams to watch as cross country begins, using data to uncover squads with strengths that stand out from the pack. The countdown is also not meant to be in a strict order, because it's impossible to sort out several teams of similar strength at this point of the season.
