Countdown to XC Day 25: Ridgeview Boys

The Central Section has some emerging boys teams this fall, and Ridgeview appears to be the best of them. The Wolf Pack finished 6th in Division 3 last fall with only one senior in their top 7, showing an ability to peak at the right time of the season that will come in handy if they make a run at the team title this fall. In fact, Ridgeview grades out better in our returning 5K rankings than any of the big D1 schools in their section, and the times that form the basis of that ranking are all from the Central Section finals and the state meet.  There were a few encouraging highlights from the spring, as well: Alex Cuevas and Payton Fox posted 1600 times of 4:23 and 4:27, respectively, which could indicate they are ready to form a three-man lead group that would make this team even more formidable. However, the Wolf Pack's overall team results on the track were average; some programs just don't put a lot of emphasis on the spring, and this could be one of them. They also don't grade out well in our Improvement Ratings, but that could be for a lack of data. The upshot of all this? Ridgeview has the potential to be the best in the Central Section from any division and a contender at the D3 state meet, but I'll need to see the results on the course this fall before I can move them up in the rankings.

Team Statistics:

  • 5K Returning Rankings: 12th
  • 3 Mile Returning Rankings: 14th
  • 3200 Returning Rankings: 36th
  • 1600 Returning Rankings: 46th

The purpose of the Countdown To XC is not to predict the top 30 teams in the state for the upcoming season (although we certainly hope that the top 15-20 teams are included in the countdown at some point). The goal is to recognize thirty teams to watch as cross country begins, using data to uncover squads with strengths that stand out from the pack. The countdown is also not meant to be in a strict order, because it's impossible to sort out several teams of similar strength at this point of the season.
