Track & Field Preview Interview Series: Sprinter Emerald Bowens

A feature look at the top returning athletes in CA for the 2018 season

There are 62 returning track & field athletes who stood on the podium at the CIF-State Championships last June in the heat of Clovis in California's Central Valley.

Of those 62, eight will begin this season looking to defend individual State titles. In one case, an athlete is looking to defend titles in two events. There's another going after a third consecutive title.

Of those 62, 13 were runners-up at the State final in 2017 and another eight placed third. There are 16 looking to make the podium for a third consecutive year and one looking to do it all four years.

As part of MileSplitCA's detailed walk-up to the 2018 CIF Track & Field season, one of the objectives is to interview as many of the elite and returning athletes as we are able to catch up with to provide a feature video for our premium subscribers.

This is the beginning of that series.

We begin with a closer look at sprinter Emerald Bowens of Redlands East Valley, a three-time CIF-Southern Section finalist in the 100m and a 2017 CIF-State 100m finalist.
