Make no mistake, Monte Vista has a very strong team coming back for 2017: they rank in the top 10 among returning 5K teams, they have 6 of their top 7 back from the squad that finished 5th in Division 2, and they even have a solid 3 Mile rankings. We're at the point in the countdown where having strong returning times from the 2016 season isn't enough - the teams above the Mustangs either have better Improvement Ratings or better team track times (and the top tier of teams have both). Still, don't think I'm overlooking this team. With the graduation of Meredith Corda, Monte Vista will rely on a tight pack (30 seconds separate their 1-5 returners and 54 seconds from 1-7). The North Coast has a lot of good teams this year, and I won't be surprised to see the Mustangs in the top 20 or even top 15 state-wide by the end of the season.
