California State Track and Field Meet: Running Events Preview

Girls 100 Meter Hurdles

Favorite: Jasmyn Graham E. Roosevelt (SS) 13.21
Leading Contenders: Mecca McGlaston Dublin (NCS) 13.72 & Sydney Mosley Monrovia (SS) 13.73w
State Meet Record: Vashti Thomas Mt. Pleasant (CCS) 13.03 2007

It's rare for the defending state champion to the be the underdog but we definitely have that situation in this event. Mecca McGlaston of Dublin won the 2014 CA state meet in a personal best 13.54. She has dealt with an injury throughout this season but seems to be returning to form at the right time. She wasn't the favorite last year so should be in a very familiar role this weekend. Jasmyne Graham of E. Roosevelt comes in a strong favorite after winning the SS Masters meet as well as her lightning fast season best time set at the Arcadia Invitational. Sydney Mosley of Monrovia, multi-event star Tara Davis of Agoura as well Jurnee Woodward of Vacaville are all within striking distance and as with any hurdle races, surprises do happen.

Boys 110 Meter Hurdles

Favorite: Alexander Billing Simi Valley (SS) 13.71w
Leading Contenders: Joseph Anderson (above) Upland (SS) 13.69w & Justin Collins Carson (LA) 13.95w
State Meet Record: Kevin Craddock James Logan (NCS) 13.39 2004

In 2015, 3 CA high hurdlers have dipped under 14 second mark. Alexander Billing of Simi Valley and Joseph Anderson of Upland seem to be the class of this field and were separated by a mere .02 at the SS Masters final (13.81 to 13.83 won by Billing). The 3rd hurdler, Justin Collins of Carson, ran a wind aided 13.95 and comes into this meet as a Los Angeles Section champion and may be one of the best combination hurdlers in the nation.
