California State Track and Field Meet: Running Events Preview

4x400 Meter Relays

Girls Favorite: St. Mary's Berkeley (NCS) 3:43.97
Leading Contenders: Oaks Christian (SS) 3:45.62, Carondelet (NCS) 3:46.33 & E. Roosevelt (SS) 3:44.76
State Meet Record: Long Beach Poly (SS) 3:35.49

The state 1600 meter relay victor, except for a couple of years, has usually come from the southern part of the state. This year, the favorite will come from the north with St. Mary's Berkeley taking over the CA lead at the NCS MOC meet running 3:43.97. They will try to become the 3rd team from the north in the past 21 years to win along with Bishop O'Dowd in 2007 and Piedmont Hills in 2013. It will certainly not be easy as Lauren Rain Williams will attempt to anchor Oaks Christian to a relay and team title in her final race. Carondelet chased St. Mary's Berkeley at the NCS MOC meet and are within striking distance. E. Roosevelt will also be in the hunt for the team title and that may be the incentive they need to win here.

Boys Favorite: Long Beach Wilson (SS) 3:13.61
Leading Contenders: Vista Murrieta (SS) 3:13.09, Notre Dame, Sherman Oaks (SS) 3:15.49, E. Roosevelt 3:14.41 & Cathedral 3:16.30
State Meet Record: Serra, Gardena (SS) 3:08.42 2010

The race for the relay title here may be wide open with some teams that were just looking to advance at last week's section finals. We should see teams fielding their top lineups here with more than relay gold on the line. Long Beach Wilson won the SS Masters meet with a school record and CA leading 3:13.61. Vista Murrieta will always be a threat with the fastest 400 runner in the field Michael Norman carrying the baton. Notre Dame Sherman Oaks, Cathedral and E. Roosevelt are all within striking distance giving the SS the top 5 teams in this field.
