2018 Central Coast Section XC Detailed Preview

Division 3 Boys

Teams to Watch (Full Rankings)

This division appears to be wide open at this point. You could make a case for a few teams as slight favorites based on past history. Aptos, as you will see below, will be led once again by coach Dan Gruber. His boys have surprised teams in the past and this may be another season where they will be under the radar and show up to the section final clicking on all cylinders. Another veteran coach, Sacred Heart Cathedral's Andy Chan, has worked his own magic in the past and will be aiming squarely at a section title this coming season. Greenfield is another team that has shown well at section finals and will be another team vying for a top 2 team finish. Two WCAL schools that will be dangerous threats will be St. Ignatius and Riordan. Mills will also be in contention although they will be without veteran coach Tim Tuff this coming season.

Athletes to Watch (Full Rankings)

The top returner from last year is Greenfield senior Rigo Garcia who along with fellow teammate Mauricio Arias give Greenfield a potent one/two punch. Monterey's Isaac Gensel finished just behind Arias and missed qualifying to the state meet. He will be plenty of motivated this season to finish in the top 10 in order for him to enjoy lovely downtown Fresno during Thanksgiving weekend.
