Girls Division 2 Preview

Capistrano Valley senior Haley Herberg had the top combined time from two heats at the division prelims. Her 17:29.70 clocking over the flat three-mile Riverside Championship Course put the field on notice that she was the runner to beat.
Anaheim Canyon senior Sara Leonard will undoubtedly have something to say about that. She was ninth last year and the top returning finisher from last November's State meet. Leonard sat out the prelims but comes in with the No. 2 three-mile time in the division this season (16:05.80) when she was fifth at Woodbridge. Herberg was third in that race (16:00.60).
Capistrano Valley senior Alyssa Bautista, sixth overall at prelims (17:47.40), is the division's top returning finisher from last season's final.
And don't sleep on Mission Viejo junior Kelli Hines, who has taken it slow recovering from an injury that cost her last track season. She also skipped the prelims. This fall she has posted the fastest two three-miles times of her life. But more telling than her 16:34.10 PR in September at Woodbridge is the 17:29.10 at the mid-October Riverside Invitational.
Claremont is the defending champion and top-ranked team in the division. At prelims, Sydney Hwang was fifth (17:45.00) and Azalea Segura-Mora was seventh (17:50.20) Alyssa Cantrell tied for 13th (18:08.10) for Claremont.
