2017 Girls Pre-Season Top 10 California XC Runners

#9 Mariah Castillo, Saugus (SS)

Saugus has been one of the most successful cross country programs in the entire state, especially on the girls' side. Since 2006, the Centurions have won 9 state titles which trails only SF University with 10 for the all-time CA record for team titles. They have been led in the past by runners like Kaylin Mahoney and Samantha Ortega and their latest elite runner is senior Mariah Castillo (photo above courtesy of Ben Crawford). Last season, Castillo led Saugus to a 2nd place finish at the state final after qualifying to the state meet by the slimmest of margins with a 7th place tie breaker at the Southern Section final. This past track and field season, she recorded personal bests of 2:14.31, 4:52.88 (mile) and 10:36.79.
