#8 Corie Smith, Buchanan (CS)
One of the most impressive freshman distance runners last year was Buchanan's Corie Smith (photo above courtesy of Ben Crawford). At the 2016 California State XC Meet, Smith finished in 4th place in the Division I race with a time of 17:35.77, leading her teammates to a 3rd place podium finish behind nationally ranked Great Oak and Davis. Her time was the 13th fastest overall and the fastest freshman time for all divisions. Smith continued her fine running during this past Track and Field season with bests of 2:18.86, 4:56.58 and 10:28.00 (at Arcadia Invitational). She won the Central Section Masters meet 3200 meters race and finished in 7th place at the CA state TF meet with a time of 10:30.50.
