Stanford Invitational: Arcadia's Moussa and Mcalister Finish at the Top!

It was a great day for Arcadia High School with two runners finishing with the fastest times of the day. 

 

In the boys seeded race, senior Ammar Moussa jumped out (pictured below at the start; bib #69 in front at the gun  and stayed at the front until crossing the finish at 14:37, running 16 seconds faster than last years winner.  "I was really happy with my race but I was way happier with my team's race," said Moussa after the race.  "As a team we ran great but we still have a lot of work to do in shoring up some of our gaps,'" he continued.

Teammate Sergio Gonzalez, a junior, took 2nd in 14:48 and was the only other runner to break 15 minutes.  Both looked very strong and determined as they led their team to a first place finish with 33 points and an average time of 15:16.   All five runners placed in the top 16 in a race with 158 runners.   The Bellarmine boys came in 2nd with 141 points.

 

 

Catrina McAlister, also a senior at Arcadia, finished the seeded race with a 17:16 followed by 2nd place runner Brook Holt (Sr., Granite Bay) who finish in 17:42.   Four other runners broke the 18 minute mark starting with La Costa Canyon freshman Emma Abrahamson who finished in 3rd just one second behind Holt in 17:42 with sophomore teammate Kelly Lawson in 4th in 17:46.  Ashlyn Dadhah (Jr., Torrey Pines) placed 5th in 17:54 and Clare Carroll took 6th in 17:57.

 

The Jesuit girls out of Portland, Oregon won the girls seeded race with 99 points and an average time of 18:47.  Granite Bay finished a close second with 113 points and an average time of 18:44.

Division 1

 

Kevin Bishop (Jr., Monte Vista) won the boys Divison 1 race in 15:29, closely followed by Fountain Valley senior, Luis Emilio Morales in 15:29.   Arcadia’s second team won the boys divison with 69 points over Oak Ridge with 121 points.

 

Vista freshman Ashley Cope won the girls Division 1 race in 18:26.  Elaine McVay (Sr., California) took 2nd in 18:33.  Davis Senior High won the girls team title with 115 points.

 

 

 

 

Division 2

 

Chris Kigar (Sr., El Camino) took an early commanding lead in the race finishing in 15.16 over Will Geiken (Sr., Los Gatos) who finished in 15:51.  Steele Cayon won the team title with 100 points over Pen (160 points).

 

Foot Locker finalist, Julie Nacouzi (Sr., Montgomery) had a 49 second lead over Paige Huges (Sr., Valhalla) finishing in 18 flat.   Clovis North won the girls title with 89 points.  Grandview finished 2nd with 138 points.

 

 

 

Division 3

 

Forrest Shaffer (Sr., Petaluma) won the boys race in 15:45.  Thomas Joyce finished 2nd in 15:52 leading his team to a victory with 48 points over Petaluma (115 points).

 

Campolindo won the team title for the girls placing 2 girls in 1st and 2nd.  Carrie Verdon (Jr., Campolindo) won the Division 3 race in 17:59 over teammate Grace Orders (Sr.) in 18:10.  Both girls ran the race together throughout the course until Verdon pulled ahead during the final stretch.

 

 

 

Division 4

 

Matt Neev (Sr., Laguna Beach) won the Division 4 race in 15:24 over J.J. Dominquez (Jr., Don Bosco Tech).   Don Bosco won the team title over Notre Dame S.O.  Bosco finished with 84 points and Notre Dame earned 133 points.

 

Freshman Anna Maxwell  (San Lorenzo Valley) won the Division 4 race for the girls in 18:16.  Christina Garcia (Sr., Oaks Christian) placed 2nd with a time of 18:27.   Coronado won the girls team title with 145 points.  La Reina was just 5 points behind with 150 points.

 

 

 

Division 5

 

John Robinson (Sr., George Whittell) just edged out Cole Williams (Sr., Urban School of SF) at the line finishing with a time of 15:48.   Williams was just 1 second back in 15:49 and led his team to the boys title with 117 points over Xavier College Prep (135 points).

 

Annie Mooney (Sr., Mission College Prep) won the girls race in 18:17.  Freshman Julia Maxwell (Branson) took 2nd in 18:30.  College Prep won the team title with 67 points over Urban School of SF (124 points).
